MeTS is a platform for applying and measuring piconewton-scale forces inside living cells, using sub-100 nanometre magnetic nanoparticles. It's a way of asking cells direct, physical questions: push here, and see what changes.
Cells are mechanical objects as much as they are chemical ones — they push, pull, sense tension, and respond to physical load in ways that are easy to overlook if you only ever measure them biochemically. Intracellular magnetic tweezers let us apply a controlled, localised force directly inside a living cell and watch how it responds in real time.
More to come as the work develops.
